Ah beng, seng, lian and hua

I went to Mahkota Parade today. All of a sudden, I saw a glimpse of gold?? or extremely bright yellow??? dyed hair. Well, it caught my eye and I turned to take a look at it. Two Chinese male teenagers (probably waiting for SPM results) were dyed in those 'striking and eye- catching' colour. Then, right in front of them are their girlfriend. Oh boy, no wonder they are couples. Male is already that bloody 'outstanding', their chicks are also the same. Fashions that looks kind of messy to me (tho some might say it's not) with the latest shining plastic platforms shoes. Oh for goodness sake! Even with their so called 'Japanese' makeup (makeup that made their eyes bigger and cuter). My brother and I were there trying not to laugh. Ok..we might sound evil but that's their preference. I can't blame them and everyone else for having the same taste. I give kudos to them for having the courage to wear it.
So, I came back home and it occurred again.
I blame the linking game for making me to procrastinate...
Right there, I linked it to one's blog where they mentioned Ah Beng, Ah Seng, Ah Lian and Ah Hua or as known as Lala Zai and Lala Lui.
Though, the norm usually called them Lala Zai and Lui but I preferably called them Ah Beng and Ah Lian.
Even the Wikipedia called them Ah Beng and Ah Lian.
For locals, it is easy to learn how to distinguish them as it is obvious. I went Wiki for it.

Wiki says:

Ah Beng is a derogatory term applied to a certain of a group of young Chinese men in SEA, particularly Singapore and Malaysia. The stereotypical view of a Ah Beng is a young Chinese man or teenager, that lacks cultural refinement or indulging in criminal activity or being involved in brawling or arguing out of disagreements with other people. (this is bad and real bad definition for Ah Bengs..LOL)

In Malaysia, the term 'Ah Beng' usually refers to males who have unusual styles and tastes. And the term 'lala-zai' refers to males involved in stereotypical gangster activity or fashion such as the dyeing of hair. (all those style statements are true...pants with many strings hanging... and those are for???)

Characteristic

Ah Beng's are normally Chinese men in their early teens to late 20s, seen hanging out in groups and typically speaking in local slang such as Manglish and Singlish. Their English level is limited to simple English word and incorrect grammar. When having a conversation, Ah Beng like to curse in their daily speech. Cantonese words such as " Tiu Lei Ke Ma Chau Hai", " Ma Hai" and " Tiu Lei Ke Fa Hai" is commonly uttered by them. (more than that...)

Ah Beng's fashion come in several stereotype. One stereotype perceive Ah Bengs wearing flamboyants shirts such as colorful decoration especially dragon, tight jeans and constantly carrying plastic combs. Another stereotype perceive Ah Bengs trying to follow Japanese fashion, with spiky and dyed hair, metalic ornaments, leather jackets, belts and pants. (apparently, those are outdated ones, the latest I saw was pants with many strings hanging and those sore eye colours...)

AH LIAN's WAYS OF RECOGNITION.

Ah Lians are commonly stereotyped as having hair dyed in gaudy and bright colours, and attired in fashion mimicking hip-hop culture, or outdated Japanese fashion, although how much of this is true is debatable. Most of Ah Lians are wearing fashions that are out dated and they still have their hair straightened with thick fringe. (yikes! as though describing me..) They love to take own pictures and imitate the way Japanese girls take their pictures which is by making their eyes look big and puffing their cheeks. Few more examples of the way they take pictures are by putting a horizontal 'Peace sign' on their eye, putting a fist facing outwards on their puffed cheek (yup. Can't stand it. Never fail to amuse me). Another distinct feature of an Ah Lian is they swear in most of their conversations just like Ah Bengs. Much like their male counterparts - that is, Ah Bengs - Ah Lians are also thought of as being excessively flashy and show-offs. (Oh..definitely)

Ah Lians commonly speak in a kind of hybrid mix of Singlish and Manglish a.k.a. like Ah Beng lar...

Right, this is funny and insulting. This is the examples of spotting Ah Bengs and Ah Lians.

Ah Bengs and Ah Lians love techno music. One can immediately spot an Ah Beng's or Ah Lian's car on the road. Their cars are usually heavily modified with big exhaust pipes, and powerful woofer set at the back of the car. They usually drive very fast while listening to loud techno music in their car. (this example is kind of old)

My example that I found virtually:

Especially websites like Friendster or something like friend finder, they tend to add those friends that is completely stranger to them. Maybe it sounds ok to some of you but to come and think about it...it's stupid. They just want to show off the numbers that they had. Their profile pictures (just like what Wiki had mentioned)...ugh... haha...
